Amazing Autumn Fun

The children at Farmoor have recently loved exploring all things Autumn, from pumpkin soup, to hunts in the orchard, we have covered it all.

Leaf and apple collecting have become a favourite activity for all the children. We have enjoyed using the leaves to make bunting and using apples to print with, we have also showcased our delicious apples in our baking, putting them in cakes & crumbles.

We have enjoyed harvesting various vegetables in our cubs department, including munchkin pumpkins. We enjoyed using our senses as well as developing our motor skills with some one handed tools to explore these further.

We have also enjoyed exploring various autumnal vegetables in our autumn sensory basket, with an Autumn vegetable tasting activity which included sweet potato, parsnips, swede as well as an autumnal fruit blackberry.

A highlight in our Tigers department has been our Autumn hunt’s, which the children have enjoyed a number of times, each time with a different focus or objects to find. Lucy made us a map to follow which included the number of each objects we had to find, we all loved the challenge.

We found various vegetables, explored the apples and how fast they roll as well as a sound walk. We then used what we had found to make some delicious pumpkin soup in our mud kitchen.

The Lions children have explored Autumn through various sensory trays, with a focus on the story ‘Pumpkin soup’. The older children have enjoyed using a hammer to develop their gross motor skills and successfully hammer golf tees into the large pumpkins.

At group time we have enjoyed talking about gratitude and writing on pumpkins things we are grateful for, with one child making sure that we were to include ‘Biscuits’!
