125g/4oz butter or sunflower margarine
50g/2oz brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cloves
2 tablespoons milk or water
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

You will need: Set of scales, large mixing bowl, small bowl, sieve, tablespoon, large baking tray, star shaped cutters if possible, a rolling pin and a Teflon liner. A fish slice/spatula and timer.
Before you start. Wipe all food preparation surfaces with a clean cloth. Wash and dry your hands, talking about germs and importance of food hygiene. Use aprons where possible.

Together: Collect the items you will need.
Together: Measure out the ingredients. Sieve the flour and spices into a large bowl. Add the butter or margarine and rub in to the flour with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs (or you can do this in a food processor/mixer). Add the sugar and milk/water and mix well. Continue to mix and press together firmly with your hands or a wooden spoon until it forms a soft pliable dough that holds together well. Turn on the oven -180ºC/350°F/Gas Mark 4.
Place the dough ball onto a lightly floured surface and roll out with a rolling pin, to about 5mm/½cm thick. Cut the star shapes and prick lightly with a fork or other pattern. Place onto a greased baking tray or the Teflon sheet.

Adult; Place the biscuits into the oven for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Together: Set the timer.
Adult; Lift out the biscuits and leave to cool for a few minutes.

Together: Using a fish slice or flat spatula move them to a cooling rack to rest.
