The Lullaby Trust – One of Willow Cottage’s Chosen Charities 2017/18

The Lullaby Trust raises awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), provides expert advice on safer sleep for babies and offers emotional support for bereaved families.
The Lullaby Trust also provides support for parents who lose a child older than 1 year old – every year a very small number of older babies and young children die suddenly and no cause of death is ever found. The Lullaby Trust is currently funding research to try to find out more about why these deaths occur and anything can be done to prevent them.

Marijana, one of Willow Cottage parents, says:
“When our first son Adam passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at 20 months old, no cause was found and it was classified as Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC). We contacted Lullaby Trust who helped us as we were going through incredibly painful, isolating and dark times. They facilitated meeting parents who lost children and their support was invaluable to us. The Lullaby Trust funds medical research and has also created a unique scheme to help parents in the Care of Next Infant (CONI). When Adam’s little brother Luka was born, through this scheme we received (amongst other things) a hospital grade baby monitor. There are no words to describe how much this meant to us, I don’t think we would have been able to sleep or cope if it wasn’t for a gentle and reassuring clicking sound of that monitor each time Luka took a breath. Almost 3 years on and we are still in touch with the Trust, helping raise much needed funds for research or support otherwise, in the hope that one day the world will be free of SIDS and SUDC”
