Sirens, Engine, Action!
Today we were very excited that Steve and Claire from Eynsham Fire Station were able to visit our Eynsham setting. The children where so excited whilst they waited for them to arrive, practicing their “nee-naw” noises ahead of time.
Steve and Claire talked to the children about what a fire fighter does and what the different equipment is used for in the lockers.
Steve told them how many litres of water the engine can hold and how tall the ladders are. The children were able to hold the hose (which was very heavy) and pretend to squirt water out.
If they wanted to they got to sit in the cab where they could have a close look at the helmets and other protective equipment. Before the fire engine left they put the lights on, and the siren. Good job we had practiced so we knew what it would sound like.
The children liked pointing out the letters of the front “FIRE” Steve asked if we could see they were written backwards and explained it was so other drivers can read it in their mirrors.
Thank you so much to Steve, Claire and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue for letting us experience a fire engine up close. We had a wonderful time.
