Baking With Apples

After a very tiny harvest from our apple trees last year, things have noticeably improved this year, the branches hanging low with apples.

At Bletchingdon the children have been helping to pick the apples and learning about the difference between cooking and eating apples.

The Badgers have been so busy after an apple picking visit to the field. We spent the following morning counting and sorting them into sizes, then chopping them up.

We added blackberries, then all the Badgers helped to make the crumble topping using their fingers to crumble the ingredients together, we tasted it in the afternoon at tea time with cream, yummy.

In Cubs we have been baking apple cakes.

The Foxes have enjoyed harvesting the apples and using them in cooking activities.
Today we made gluten-free apple cake to have for tea.

The Foxes followed the recipe well and developed a range of skills such as weighing, egg cracking, chopping, grating, juicing, mixing and turn taking.
