Forest School Fun
We are extremely fortunate to be able to offer the children the opportunity to participate in a variety of Forest School sessions with our trained leaders, Sally and Nicola, at our Bletchingdon and Farmoor settings.
Nicola says,
“Forest School is a fantastic opportunity for children to explore the outdoor environment whilst encouraging independence, the exploration of managed risk and building confidence through achievable, but challenging, activities.“
Both Bletchingdon and Farmoor offer Forest School sessions on a 6 week rotation cycle. Once the six week cycle comes to an end the day of the week Forest School is on is changed in order to allow all children to experience the sessions despite not all children doing the same days. The sessions are similar enough for the children to all experience the same activities and yet are also adapted to suit the group’s individual interests.
Over the last 6 weeks children at both settings have explored a variety of activities.
These have included;
- making magic mud potions, using Gruffalo recipe sheets in the mud kitchen, volcanos, jumping in muddy puddles and making dens.
- Reading many different stories, The Gruffalo, The Big Monster Hunt, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and Thud.
- Finding the Gruffalo and friends hidden in the field using maps to find them.
The children are encouraged to take pride in, and ownership of, their Forest School areas and resources. They talk about and demonstrate their ability to keep themselves, their friends, our environment and our equipment safe.
At Bletchingdon they have made a new path around a trees in the corner of the field using the branches from the ash tree that was felled and leaves from the edge of the field. Whilst at Farmoor they have been mixing sand and food colouring together to make their own paint.
Every week there is a new adventure to explore and the children, and staff, have such a great time doing so.
